Writing in Books is a collection of found inscriptions from the opening pages of 60 books, from 1875 to 2007, bound together in a hardcover book.
What I love most about books is their physicality and their ability to be passed on. Not just forwarded or downloaded like an ebook mediated through a screen – each book is an object that can travel from person to person, and is marked accordingly. This tangibility becomes even more pronounced when a book has an inscription in it. I collected the material for this book by scouring the shelves of family and friends, second-hand book shops and my own personal library.
