Going to the market is fun activity. Large chain superstores can be more convenient, but smaller street markets have special charms that the stores do not have. There are real people, love, culture and history. But, people these days easily forget the preciousness of these and look for new and more convenient solutions.
To argue for the saving of street markets I wanted create a work which could communicate heart-to-heart with people through design. I first chose the Columbia Road Flower Market as my subject because it represents well the 1970's London. I then recorded the busy and symphony-like movements and sounds of the market in black & white from opening to closing. After recording, I edited to create a synergy effect and presented the work as an installation.
